Community & Events
Northampton Farmers Market Spring Opening. Vendors arranged colorful displays of early spring produce at the Northampton Farmers Market's opening day on Saturday, with shoppers bundled against an unseasonable cold front. Five College Jazz Ensemble Performance. The Five College Jazz Ensemble performed their spring concert at Hampshire College's Russell House on Friday evening, drawing an audience of over 300 music enthusiasts. Pioneer Valley High School Swim Meet. Amherst Central High School's 200-yard medley relay team touched out a narrow victory over Hadley High School at the regional championships held at the Valley Sports Complex. Mount Holyoke Spring Wildflowers. Late-season wildflowers bloomed across the slopes of Mount Holyoke despite unseasonable temperatures, creating a carpet of purple and yellow across the open areas of the mountain. Oxbow Lake Morning Mist. A thick fog settled over Oxbow Lake early Tuesday morning, creating ethereal reflections of the surrounding forests. The mist burned off by mid-morning as temperatures rose to the mid-40s. Local birdwatchers reported increased spring migration activity along the lake during the misty dawn hours. Street Life & Commerce
Downtown Amherst Renovation Milestone. Construction workers removed temporary scaffolding from the historic corner building on Main and Pleasant Streets on Thursday afternoon, revealing the completed facade renovation. Local Bookstore Window Display. The Bookends Cooperative's spring window display featured an arrangement celebrating women authors, with works ranging from contemporary fiction to historical memoirs. Hadley Town Green Construction Progress. Crews continued work on the new pavilion structure at Hadley Town Green, with the steel framework now standing completed against the afternoon sky.
