Housing Affordability Crisis Deepens in the Region. A new analysis by the University of Massachusetts Center for Public Policy shows that median housing prices across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island have risen 42% since 2019, while median household income has increased just 14% over the same period. Labor Talks Continue at Precision Manufacturing. Workers at Precision Manufacturing's Springfield facility, represented by the United Auto Workers union, have been without a contract since August 1. Negotiations resumed Tuesday after a two-week recess. The company and union remain at odds over wages, healthcare benefits, and a proposed shift to four-day work weeks. Company spokesperson James Patterson told the Gazette that talks remain productive and that both sides are committed to reaching an agreement by month's end.
State Releases Infrastructure Funding Allocations. Massachusetts released its annual infrastructure funding allocations Tuesday, directing $1.2 billion toward highway repairs, $340 million for public transit modernization, and $180 million for water and sewer infrastructure improvements. Funding for regional projects includes $67 million for I-91 corridor improvements and $23 million for Pioneer Valley public transit upgrades.
